Trauma is stored in the body – in our nervous system and in our brain. EMDR works to process and pass stuck trauma memories that keep the body and nervous system reacting as if the traumatic event is still happening. When we trust that the nervous system can lead our healing- just as we trust our body will heal a cut- we allow for healthy reprocessing of the trauma memory.
Through a combination of bilateral stimulation, identifying negative beliefs and installing new positive beliefs, clients reduce their sensitivity to trauma triggers.
