Ever find yourself feeling pulled in five different directions, or overwhelmed by the never ending to-do list in your mind? Or get debilitated by ruminating on the past or worrying about the future? When we practice yoga therapy, we tap into our ability to be in the present moment. Our busy, hectic lives demand that we are constantly on alert and can bring us to a place of chronic stress. Yoga and mindfulness are the antidote because they access the healing side of our nervous system. There are a multitude of mindfulness practices, we will work together to find the ones that are right for you.
Yoga Therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well being through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga (International Association of Yoga Therapists, 2012). Though this can occur in a small group setting, private yoga sessions are able to address individual clients’ needs at any moment in their lives. Whether a client is dealing with anxiety, depression and emotional challenges, or physical challenges such as chronic pain, injuries, IBS, high blood pressure, or diabetes, yoga therapy has been shown to nourish the body and mind.
Jamie has worked with students both during and after cancer treatments, with arthritis, knee, shoulder, neck and back injuries, bulging discs, sciatica, and chronic pain. She has also worked with clients with ADHD, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, OCD and oppositional defiant disorder.
Jamie has studied many traditions of healing, has over 1000 hours of yoga teacher training and holds a masters of science in psychological counseling. She is certified to practice yoga therapy by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT).
Yoga sessions may include use of active yoga postures, restorative yoga postures, breath work, meditation or visualization, therapeutic touch and reiki, in order to involve the mind, body, and breath in the healing process. Each session is tailored to the client’s needs based on the presenting issue, as well as the client’s constitution and personality. Regardless of physical ability, a personalized yoga program can be developed for anyone interested in furthering the healing process. Sessions can be held in an office or virtual, and can run anywhere from 30 to 75 minutes based on students’ needs.
